The Red Sea....in Travelers Rest

So it seems the rain and wind from the past week has wrecked havoc on the camellia bush. I was surprised to see that the ground below was a virtual red sea of blooms.

Too cool that there were still a few rain drops on some of the blooms, huh?

The Typewriter's Last Word...

It's been raining for the better part of the week, and I haven't been able to get many outside photos. I thought I'd shoot a few pictures of this old typewriter I have.

This Royal typewriter, is approximately 65 years old.

Dandelions Are Dandy!

When I was a kid, I never realized that dandelions were weeds. To me, they were pretty and pretty = flowers.

I know I'm all grown up now, but I still think they are pretty!

The Grass May Be Greener On The Other Side Of The Fence...But You Still Have To Cut It.

Sometimes you have to get down & dirty to get the shot you want and I don't mind doing that.

I'll be the first to admit though, getting up off the ground is sometimes a challenge! ;0)

On a side note...if you're native to Upstate South Carolina you say "I need to cut my grass."

You would never, ever say, "I need to mow my lawn." Saying such a thing will cause you to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Rain

Rain

The rain is falling all around,
It falls on field and tree,
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.

Mmmmm...Spice Drops...

I love me some spice drops. As I peered down into the bag, I thought it would would make a cool picture.

Ehhh......it's ok.

Slow Go

Last Friday, I was driving along East North Street coming back from Sonic, and I got behind this fella.

No doubt, I'll get scolded by my mama again for taking pictures while driving, but sometimes you just gotta do it! :0)

Bradfords Are Beautiful

If you remember, on March 8th, I took I posted a photo of a blooming Bradford pear tree. I thought this was the same kind of tree, but the blooms appear to be different. Are there different varieties of Bradford pear?

I'm not sure which one is prettier. I think they both are beautiful!

The Handlebar

I'm always on the look out for cool murals. I pass by this one every day on the way to work, but only recently stopped for a photo.

I have never been inside The Handlebar, but I hear they have cool concerts.

Here's a link to their website: The Handlebar

Weeds Are Pretty Too!!

Who says weeds are ugly?

I found these weeds growing in that old wheelbarrow in my yard.

Leave It Be

Remember the camellia bush from a couple of days ago? This is what the ground underneath looked like.

I thought it would look like a cool photo...and I was right.

Are You Nostalgic?

This shop caught my eye a few months back. They always have the coolest things in their windows.

I wonder who actually buys these things and for what occasion? Their sign does say "custom costumes", so I'll assume that much of what they sell is bought for use as costumes.

Threads in Time is located on Stone Avenue in Greenville.

Spring, Oh How I Love You!

This camellia bush just started blooming recently near my house and it wasn't until I got close, that I realized just how beautiful it was.

THIS is why I love Spring so much!

C*L*E*M*S*O*N

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that whoever drives this truck is a Clemson Tiger fan. What do you think?

I found this truck sitting outside a garage on Poinsett Highway in Greenville.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The Shamrock

There's a dear little plant that grows in our isle,

'Twas Saint Patrick himself, sure, that set it;

And the sun of his labor with pleasure did smile,

And with dew from his eye often wet it.

It grows through the bog, through the brake,

through the mireland

And they call it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

Nothing But Steel

Perhaps you've had enough of flowers and things.

Thought I'd mix things up a bit with this close up view of this antique Vulcan Hillside plow.

Wheelbarrow Full 'O Weeds...

In a few weeks, when it gets a little warmer, I'll probably go out and buy a flat of wave petunias to plant in this old wheelbarrow.

Wave petunias are great, especially for planters, because they withstand the heat and overflow their containers with reckless abandon.

Cool Skies

When I took this photo, I didn't really expect much out of it, but I was really quite pleased with it.

I'm not sure why I like it so much. I believe I like the contrast of the sky behind the bare limbs of this Japanese Maple.

Redbuds Are A Bloomin'....

The eastern redbud is one of the earliest flowering trees. I love it's dainty flowers. (click on this pic to fully appreciate what I'm talking about!)

An interesting factoid that you can use to amaze all your friends with today:

Early American settlers are said to have used the redbud’s flowers in salads.

Yes, I'll take a Redbud salad, with Ranch (on the side), please!

In A Matter of A Week...

We went from this....

to this...

This peach tree is FULL of blooms. (Click on the picture above & you'll see what I'm talking about). If it doesn't freeze again, it will be beautiful before too long.

Here's a close up view of the first arrivals:

Suprise!

I did a double-take when I pulled out of my driveway yesterday morning.

This tiny peach tree was full of blooms. It seemed like it bloomed overnight.

I love life's little suprises!

Pecan Sunset

It was late in the day and the sun was just starting to go down as I took this photo over the top of these pecan trees.

Again...I took this photo in my Mom's yard in Travelers Rest.

Spring is Coming....

The Bradford Pear trees are starting to bloom! That's one of the first signs that Spring is on it's way!

Front Porches and Rocking Chairs...

This rocking chair sits on my Mom's front porch in Travelers Rest.

Broken

Do you ever have days where you just feel broken?

I guess we all do. I had one of those days yesterday. Hopefully today will be better.

Collard Greens, Please

It's collard green time! Nothing goes better with collard greens than pork! Add in some cornbread and some black eyed peas and you are set!

This garden of greens is located in Travelers Rest and belongs to my Step-Dad and Mom.

Is It Wilson?

...is a potato that was in the nether-regions behind my toaster for 3 months?

You decide.

Brrrrrrrrr! Brrrrrrrrrrrr, I Said!

I'm not sure why I like this photo so much. I like the symmetry. I like the cold gray block.

The whole photo just says "Brrrrrrr", but in a stern, manly kind of way!

Snow In South Cackalacky.....

It snowed last night! Whooooo Hooooo! Apparently it took snow to get me off my lazy behind and behind the camera again!

These photos were taken on the Rice Family Property in Travelers Rest.
